About Elly Awesome

Top Australian Female Tech Reviewer & Content Creator in Australia

Elly has been creating tech reviews on social media since the dawn of YouTube. She started creating content way back in 2007, when most people thought it was a bit ... strange... to talk to a camera alone in your bedroom. It was Elly's confidence to go against the grain, work hard, ability to recognise trends, captivate audiences through the screen and self-taught branding and marketing skills, which contributed to Elly's success. The reason Elly started uploading videos to social media was because it was her childhood dream to entertain people and make them smile, partly inspired by the Australian morning cartoon's show which 'Cheez TV' she used to watch before heading off to school. Additionally, she was known to narrate and hog the limelight when her parents recorded home videos on their cheap camcorder, all since the age of 4, so content creation seemed 'meant-to-be'.

Before content creation became Elly's full-time gig she became a qualified Dental Technician, making dentures, tooth whitening appliances and mouthguards, all the while working hard in the evenings to make the most engaging and easy to understand tech content. Since going full-time, for over 10 years now, she's held onto her position as Australia's most followed and trusted female Tech content creator, making Elly the go-to gal in Australia's tech & lifestyle space, reviewing products on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube with an online following of over 1.2 million. She is not only the top female tech creator in Australia but one of the top female tech creators in the world.

Excitingly, after many years as a creative and YouTuber, Elly found herself face-to-face with her childhood dream job at Network 10. There was a call out for auditions to replace one of the hosts of the show 'Toasted TV' (this was literally her favourite childhood tv show ‘Cheez TV' just rebranded with a new name). Having never auditioned in her life, Elly drew on her skills she'd honed through creating YouTube videos, and out of the 300 people who auditioned for the role she was the one to get it!!! Between 2016-2019 Elly joined the team at Toasted TV as a presenter, writer and offline video editor. Toasted TV was broadcast nationally 7 days a week across Australian TV's on Channel 10.

During the past 10 years of her career, Elly has also worked as a professional video editor, camera woman and MC and written a book called “How to Feel Awesome Every Day, published by Penguin Random House. Her book is a a feel-good DIY, recipe, activity and mindfulness book. It's aimed to help lower stress levels of kids and get them enjoying the world inside and outside, encouraging them to have fun without screens. Because although Elly loves her tech, she also grew up surrounded by nature and loves the outdoors.

More recently, since 2019 Elly has been a freelance tech journalist best know for writing techy articles for news.com.au.

Footnote: Elly publicly came out as queer in 2017 and was the first Australian Children's TV presenter to do so during her time on air.
